What happens to my images?

Nothing leaves your device. Most online image tools upload your file to a server, process it there and send it back. SnapCompress decodes, edits and encodes the image inside your browser with Canvas and WebAssembly, so there is no upload step at all.

You can check this yourself: open your browser's developer tools, go to the Network tab and process an image. No request carries the image. After you have processed one image, the tool keeps working with the network switched off.

Which image format should I use?

JPEG

Lossy. Small files for photos and anything with smooth gradients. No transparency.

PNG

Lossless and supports transparency. Large for photos, compact for flat graphics.

Use for: Screenshots, logos, graphics with text or transparent areas.

WebP

Lossy or lossless, with transparency. Usually smaller than JPEG at similar quality and supported by current browsers.

HEIC

What iPhones save by default. Efficient, but many Windows apps, websites and forms do not accept it.
